چکیده

As announced in the Amer. M'inerol. 55, 1080 (1970) the summer meeting of the A.C.A. included a Special Session on Mineralogical Crystallography. Fifteen papers were given in a full-day session; abstracts are printed below. In a brief discussion at the end of the day the participants, who included the presidents of the A.C.A., M.A.C., and M.S.A., voted unanimously that the Session on Mineralogical Crystallography should be made a permanent feature of the A.C.A. summer meeting. A mineralogical field trip in the region north of Ottawa on Saturday, August 22nd, 1970, was conducted by Dr. D. D. Hogarth.

Silica Dust, Crystalline, in the Form of Quartz or Cristobalite

Silica, or silicon dioxide (SiO2), is a group IV metal oxide, which naturally occurs in both crystalline and amorphous forms (i.e. polymorphic; NTP, 2005). The various forms of crystalline silica are: α-quartz, β-quartz, α-tridymite, β-tridymite, α-cristobalite, β-cristobalite, keatite, coesite, stishovite, and moganite (NIOSH, 2002). The most abundant form of silica is α-quartz, and the term q...

Physicochemical and mineralogical considerations of Ediki sandstone-hosted kaolin occurrence, South West Cameroon

Field mapping, colour, particle size distribution, pH and x-ray diffraction studies were undertaken to elucidate the genesis of Ediki kaolin. The kaolin occurs within the Mungo formation of upper cretaceous age, ascribed to the Douala sedimentary basin. The kaolin profile consists of upward coarsening sandstone – siltstone – sandstone sequence with a gradient of 35 to 40°. Texturally, the kaoli...

تأثیر ماده‌ی آلی بر تغییرات کانی‌شناسی فلوگوپیت و موسکویت در اندازه‌ی رس در محیط ریشه‌ی یونجه

Weathering of K-bearing minerals as the major source of potassium in soils is of special importance under K deficient conditions. Many studies have been carried out on the effect of plant types and microorganisms on the transformation of micaeous minerals and their potassium release. However, there is no information on the effect of organic matter on mineralogical changes in micaceous minerals....
